ICSPP -ISEPP is a non-profit 501(c) research and educational network of professionals and laypeople, dedicated to the critical study of mental health. Our annual conferences serve as unique thought provoking forums to exchange ideas about the impact of contemporary mental health ideologies on client well-being, to discuss the efficacy of psychiatric treatments such as antipsychotic and antidepressant medications, and to disseminate alternative models of therapeutic intervention.

Participants include mental health professionals, academics, and researchers from the educational and academic communities, the medical and social sciences, mental health lawyers, law professors and law students, psychiatric survivors and members of the public. Attendees find the annual conferences the most stimulating, useful, intellectually challenging, and friendly meetings they ever attend.

We encourage submissions to our 2011 conference, on the topics of:

  • Detailed descriptions of safe, humane, life-enhancing therapeutic approaches to helping clients in psychological distress, (e.g. anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders and psychosis).
  • Research-based critiques of diagnosis, comparisons of medication versus non-medication interventions or treatments, and research on the stigma of treatment and mental suffering.
  • Consumer-centered intervention, such as consumer-directed services, peer support, and use of the Recovery Model.
  • Research on the synergy between neuroscience and psychology, and treatment outcomes.
  • The impact of the pharmaceutical industry on mental health practice.
  • Empirically supported non-medical approaches for treating clients in psychological distress (nutrition, exercise, open dialogue approach, CBT, analysis, etc.).
  • Or, any other topic relevant to the overall theme presented above

Presentation formats include oral presentations, roundtable discussions, practice-oriented workshops, or poster presentations. Presenters are responsible for their registration, accommodation, and travel costs. Graduate students get a 50% discount on registration fees and are eligible to win a $250 cash prize for Best Student Presentation. Accepted presentations will be eligible for publication in the peer-reviewed journal of ISEPP, Ethical Human Psychology and Psychiatry. No less than 15 CEU credits are available for those attending this conference.

Deadline for submissions is April 30, 2011.
