We are contacting you today to share information on how to attend the 14th session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP) to the United Nations (UN) _Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities_(CRPD), taking place virtually from June 15th to 17th, 2021.

All formal session of COSP will be streamed online through the UN WebTV for public viewing. The link to each day’s session will be available each morning. To access UN WebTV, please follow this link: http://webtv.un.org/ [2]
The overall theme of this year’s COSP is “Building back better: COVID-19 response and recovery; Meeting the needs, Realizing the rights, and Addressing the socio-economic impacts on persons with disabilities”. Three virtual roundtables will take place June 16 and 17 on the following sub-themes:
* Roundtable 1: Protecting the rights of persons with disabilities in armed conflict and humanitarian emergencies;
* Roundtable 2: Living Independently, being included in the community; and
* Roundtable 3: Right to education; challenges with inclusive education and accessibility during COVID-19
In addition to the formal sessions, side events will also be taking place virtually this year and will be held throughout the entire week, from June 14 to 18. Side events are open to everyone. A schedule of events can be found at this link: https://teamup.com/ksmv4e1gd1ruzbzoso [3]
The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion, will be leading Canada’s delegation. Minister Qualtrough will deliver Canada’s high-level remarks in a pre-recorded video during the opening session of COSP on June 15 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and again from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The exact time during which Minister Qualtrough’s video will be presented is unknown but the UN will publish a list of speakers on the COSP website on June 14th, which will indicate Minister Qualtrough’s place on the list.
Minister Qualtrough will also be participating in two side events during COSP.
* The first side event is taking place on Tuesday, June 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. “Building back better in Commonwealth Countries: Disability Poverty Reduction in the Post Covid-19 Era” organized by the Commonwealth Disabled Peoples Forum & Rehabilitation International Taskforce on Humanitarian Emergencies & Disability. Information on how to register will be available in the list of side events on the UN website.
* Minister Qualtrough will also be co-hosting with Hungary and the Philippines, the Government of Canada’s side-event on “Nothing Without Us: Disability Inclusion and the Pandemic Recovery”, taking place June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (EST). · Table ronde 1 : protéger les droits des personnes handicapées vivant des conflits armés ou des crises humanitaires;
· Table ronde 2 : vivre de façon autonome, être inclus dans la communauté;
· Table ronde 3 : droit à l’éducation; défis de l’éducation inclusive et de l’accessibilité pendant la COVID-19.

La ministre de l’Emploi, du Développement de la main-d’œuvre et de l’Inclusion des personnes handicapées, l’honorable Carla Qualtrough, dirigera la délégation canadienne cette année.
La ministre Qualtrough prononcera une allocution de haut niveau dans une vidéo préenregistrée lors de la séance d’ouverture de la CEP le 15 juin entre 10 h et 13 h et de nouveau de 15 h à 18 h. L’heure exacte à laquelle la vidéo de la ministre Qualtrough sera présentée n’est pas connue, mais l’ONU publiera une liste des orateurs sur le site Web de la CEP le 14 juin, qui indiquera la place de la ministre Qualtrough sur la liste.
La ministre Qualtrough participera également à deux événements parallèles pendant la conférence.
